TRIP TO WEST GEORGIA

 

West Georgia  - Site of the ancient kingdom of Colchis, land of the Golden Fleece and princess  Medea; today home to magnificent UNESCO sites and fantastical mountainous scenery in Racha and Imereti.

Day 1  City tour   - Old Tbilisi

  • visit  Mtsketa  ancient capital of Georgia.
  • Svetitskhoveli Cathedral  - the second largest church building in the country, it is listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site along with other historical monuments of Mtskheta.

Day 2  Trip to West Georgia - stay in Kutaisi

  • Kutaisi - biggest city of West Georgia. Kutaisi was the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Colchis as early as the second millennium BC. in City visit:
  • "Okros Chardakhi" – Georgian Kings’ Palace
  • Geguti Palace - one of the residences of Georgian monarchs
  • Ukimerioni– ancient fortress ruins
  • Bagrati Cathedral (early 11th century). The Bagrati Cathedral, and the Gelati Monastery a few km east of the city, are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Day 3   Trip around Kutaisi – Gelati, Motsameta. Sataplia cave, Cave of Prometheus .

  • Gelati Complex - is a monastic complex near Kutaisi
  • Motsameta Church -  impressive church in mountains.
  • visit to National National park of Sataplia and Sataplia Cave,
  • The cave of Prometheus -  is one of the richest caves in the world with its unique minerals and different types of materials and places.
  • Tskaltubo - Famous balneological resort
  • Vani Nakalakevi - dates back to the 8th century B.C. Vani used to be the cultural and business center of ancient kingdom of Colkheti.

Day4  Trip to Racha - Ambrolauri

  • Visit Nikortsminda, Barakoni churches
  • Visit Ambrolauri winery. taste the famous wine of the region – khvanchkara
  • See amazing landscape of the mountain Racha-Lechkhumi.

Day 5  Trip to Samegrelo , Zugdidi city

  • Zugdidi – city tour
  • Queen's palace
  • Niko's palace  Dadiani Palace museum (in Dadiani palace there is saved the Napoleon’s Mask
  • Blachernae St. Virgin (1825-30 y.) and Mantskhvar-kari (10th-14th centuries) Churches.
  • Old Botanical Garden (Queen's Garden)

 

Trip to Svaneti, on the way visit Inguri Dam - the world's second highest concrete arch dam with a height of 272 metres (892 ft).

Day 6 Mestia - Ushguli

  • Mestia  - highland townlet  in northwest Georgia, in Svaneti at an elevation of 1,500 meters in the Caucasus Mountains
  • Visit Ethnographical Museum in Mestia
  • Typical Svanetian protective towers

Trip to Ushguli – At 2200m this is sometimes referred to as the highest village in Europe. Magnificent, broad valley leads to the foot of Shkhara


Day 7 – Trip to Batumi

Batumi -  a seaside city on the Black Sea.  City tour

  • Petra fortress  - The ruins of the ancient historical city-fortress dates back to VI c.AD.
  • The Batumi Botanical Garden ( one of the largest botanical gardens in the former Soviet Union)
  • Batumi old and new boulevards - A favorite rest and entertainment place for Batumians and tourists is the famous Seaside Park (Boulevard)
